Canterbury Sailing School
Optimist Dinghy
We have a fleet of 30 optimist dinghies we use in sets of 10 for school and group sailing. They are Roto-molded plastic and sort of bullet proof. (One has survived a run in with the vandals.)
These are good boats to get started in - we use them for adults as well but move bigger people on as soon as we can. For learn to sail we are looking at raising the boom so bigger sailors will fit a bit easier.
Walker Bay
We got the two Walker Bay boats to serve a dual purpose - Adult learn to sail and also to use as a coach boat for schools sailing. They are working better the more we use them.
FireBug
Simon has a fleet of three Firebugs that he makes available to the sailing school and that can also be leased for club sailing. Designed by John Spencer who also designed the Javelin and Chereb among a long list of other boats the Firebug is good for bigger sailors and are a lot faster. They are a great boat to buy as a first boat as they are good value and their bright sails are fun to be out there sailing under.
Europe
The Europe Dinghy is an International Moth design from the 1960's, that is a fun high performance one person boat. Simon has two that can be available for those adults picking up the skills of dinghy sailing and wanting to get the taste of speed.
